Type 1 Diabetes

In Type 1 Diabetes the pancreas makes little or no insulin.  Old names for Type 1 Diabetes are insulin-dependent, juvenile-onset, ketosis-prone,  unstable, or brittle diabetes.

People with Type 1 Diabetes need insulin in order to stay alive.  Type 1 can begin at any age, but it usually occurs in children and young adults.

As a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) I can help you better manage your own diabetes through intensive insulin regimes or insulin pump therapy.  I work closely with insulin pump manufacturers to ensure the most up-to-date help for you if you are on an insulin pump.  Plans for the future include an “Insulin Pump Diabetes Support Group”.
