At Choice Center for Diabetes we approach the patient as a whole which includes: individualized diets utilizing functional foods; lifestyle changes such as individualized exercise and stress reduction; client support and health coaching. We provide education on options, advocate healthier choices and provide access to programs needed to help each person better manage their own diabetes.
It is estimated that up to 50% of the US population will have Pre-Diabetes or Diabetes by 2020! Diabetes becomes more common as people grow older. Approximately 40% of adults aged 20 or older with diabetes in the U.S. are unaware they have diabetes.
“The focus of our program is to get back to the basics and help people with diabetes better control their blood sugars through a combination of meal planning, exercise, weight loss as appropriate, medications/insulin as needed, and other lifestyle changes such as stress reduction” explains Marie Veselsky MS, RD, LD, CDE, BC-ADM and Owner/Coordinator for Choice Center for Diabetes.
Initially, a newly diagnosed patient with diabetes may wish to have the majority of decisions made by the health care team, at least until he or she becomes more familiar with the cost and benefits of various options in diabetes self-care. The goal would be for the person with diabetes to play a more active role in their own diabetes care.
